About Us
Mountain Stream Budo is a unique martial arts school proudly serving Beacon, NY, and surrounding towns. We specialize in karate, kobudo, jujitsu, and iaido. You have the option of training in any of these arts, or expanding your martial arts knowledge by enjoying several, or even all four of them. We are the only martial arts school in New York State that offers these four distinct arts under one roof.
Chief Instructor -Kyoshi Noah Mitchell
Kyoshi Noah Mitchell began his martial arts journey in 1983 and has been teaching since 1988. He is a 7th dan Kyoshi in karate; 6th dan Renshi in kobudo, 6th dan Renshi in jujitsu, and 5th dan in iaido, making him a well-rounded and highly respected instructor.

In 2006, he founded Mountain Stream Budo to share his passion for traditional martial arts with the community. Under his leadership, the school has grown to include several branch locations, with students who compete nationally, travel to Japan for training, and go on to teach in their own right.

Kyoshi Mitchell continues to expand his knowledge by traveling regularly to teach and take seminars, compete in tournaments, and train across the country and in Okinawa Japan with world-renowned instructors. His approach blends deep tradition with practical, real-world application, helping students of all ages build confidence, discipline, and skill.

Mountain Stream Budo is the official New York State branch of the Okinawa Kobudo Doushi Rensei-kai® and is a recognized branch of both the United States Federation of Battodo and the Zen Nihon Toyama-ryu Iaido Renmei.
Our History
Mountain Stream Budo is built on a strong foundation of tradition and lineage.
Kyoshi Noah Mitchell began training in karate in 1983 under Shihan Louis Stanishia of the Sankaku Kyokai. This unique blend of traditions shaped the approach we continue to teach today, respecting the past while adapting for the future.

In addition to karate, Kyoshi Mitchell is a dedicated teacher of Matayoshi-Ryu kobudo, a classical Okinawan weapons system. His teacher is Hanshi Neil Stolsmark, 9th dan and President of the Okinawa Kobudo Doushi Rensei-kai®, who studied directly under Matayoshi Sensei's top student, Gakiya Yoshiaki Sensei.

Mountain Stream Budo is the official New York State branch of the OKDR®. Our dojo is also recognized as a branch of the United States Federation of Battodo and the Zen Nihon Toyama-Ryu Iaido Renmei, extending our connection to traditional Japanese sword arts.

Through these lineages and affiliations, Mountain Stream Budo carries forward the spirit of budo: blending discipline, respect, and growth in every generation of students.
